Since 2007 we have supported AEFA – a project that builds and runs boarding houses for girls from the poorest and most remote mountainous regions of the High Atlas Mountains.
Learn moreWe co-manage a boarding house with 128 girls in Marrakech, who come from a wider geographical area, providing educational access to girls from some of the most underserved areas in the country.
Learn moreWe fund educational opportunities for 45 girls at Centre Malaika, an organisation dedicated to providing education, development, and social inclusion for children with Down syndrome.
Learn moreEFAM’s first project opened in 2007, giving access to secondary education for up to 36 girls. It was challenging to convince parents to send their daughters to us, but after only a few years we needed to expand to meet the demand for places!
In September 2009, we opened a second boarding house in an even more remote area of the High Atlas 100 km from Marrakech in the town of Talaat n’Yacoub. This increased our intake to 36 more girls.
In 2010 we built a new boarding house in Ouirgane.
Since then we have opened 3 more boarding houses, including our recent one in Asni in 2016 and a large one in Talaat n'Yacoub with capacity for 50 girls.
Our total number of boarding houses is 6 with a total of 250 girls.
AEFA have been running these 6 boarding houses succesfully for 250 girls and 21 local staff until the earthquake that occurred in September 2023 destroyed 5 of the 6 boarding houses.
4 temporary rental houses are currently providing temporary accommodation for the girls while the teams have been working hard managing the difficult situation that followed. Recovery operations are currently in place and planning for rebuilding of the damages houses has started.
At the end of 2024, EFAM has expanded its mission to broaden its impact across Morocco, adding both ASJFR and Centre Malaika as supported projects.
These initiatives enable us to support more underprivileged girls from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a wider geographical reach.
You can support our recovery operations with a donation.
